Drop Shot Push vs Lift

  • Its all about what you get, how you prep, and your balance whether you hit plain vanilla or aggressive drop
  • Ball in front, good spacing, loading forward = push drop – aggressive
  • On your heels, lots of pace, being pressured = lift drop – just get it to bounce in front of them

4th Shot Roll Mechanic

  • Low to high
    • The lower the contact the more upright your swing should be
    • Waist height ball-  more like a Nike swoosh-  more forward and up
  • Lay back wrist- continental grip
  • Keep weight low-  don’t pick up with the shot
  • Push them back!

Drop and Roll Drill

  • 1 player hitting drops (slightly high) and the other focusing on hitting roll shots
  • Focus on keeping drop player back and deep

The Approach Game Drill

  • Player 1 at NVZ, Player 2 at Baseline
  • Player 1 feeds balls to Player 2 – this is mimicking the return of serve
  • player 2 makes choice of drop or drive and moves forward to play out the point
  • Net Player focusing on 4th shot
  • Baseline Player focusing on Transitioning
  • Possesion scoring- Baseline player is the scoring player.  If they lose rally it is a side out and you switch who is at NVZ and Baseline
