Thank you for attending Lesson 2 of our 12 week Training Series! Please note that lessons do not have to be taken in numerical order. You are welcome to start anytime during the 3 month rotation.
Here are your notes and homework from class. Keep practicing to solidify all you learned.

Drop Shot Mechanic

  • Soft hand, soft stable wrist, soft body
  • Swing forward- not up 
  • Contact Point in front – no backswing behind the body
  • Non paddle leg forward and reach with non paddle hand
  • Laid back wrist
  • We will have a plain vanilla and an aggressive drop – it all depends on what ball gets hit to us and how our footwork prep plays out
    • If you can load forward and low you can be more aggressive – diving drop at their feet
    • If caught off balance – keep it safe and just try to get it to bounce in front of opponent 

3rd, 5th, 7th Drill

  • Set up 3 cones: Spread evenly from baseline to NVZ  
  • 1 partner stands at NVZ with 3 balls and feeds a ball to each cone 
  • Partner must hit a drop shot or reset ball at each cone- staying at each cone until they land one in the NVZ
  • Once they have hit NVZ from cone 1 they move to cone 2 where they have to hit NVZ before moving to cone 3
  • Make it harder with more pressure from feeder

Mid Court Defense Mechanic

  • Soft body, soft hands
  • Stagger feet
  • Push ball forward and use weight transfer
  • Stay Calm Under Pressure – Your body needs to be the shock absorber

Mid Court Stop and Drop Drill

  • 1 player at NVZ and 1 player mid court
  • Part #1- purpose is to hone in on contact out in front 
    • NVZ player tosses ball to midcourt player bouncing it in front of them
    • Midcourt player must stop or stall the ball in front of them with their paddle
    • Pick up ball and toss back to NVZ player
  • Part #2 – purpose is to reset into kitchen from midcourt
    • NVZ player tosses ball overhand to midcourt player bouncing it in front of them
    • Midcourt player must try and softly reset the ball back into the kitchen
    • Soft body, soft hand, contact out in front
    • May take ball out of the air or off the bounce
