Fast Hands Tips

  • Paddle out in front – contact out in front
  • Short to No backswing
  • Compact follow through point where the ball is placed

Cooperative Acceleration Drill

  • Players stand straight on to each other and begin slow controlled volleys
    • Placement can be anywhere
  • Slowly increase the speed of the volley rally to see how fast you can keep it going

Block vs Counter Attack

Block

  • Relaxed like a summer breeze
  • Use when it favors you
    • Are you in trouble?
    • Are you losing all the hand battles?
    • Are you trying to slow them down?
    • Are you jammed up?

Counter

  • Accelerate through the ball
  • Expect it to come back EVERY TIME
  • Use when you are balanced and ready to keep fighting

Block Volley Combo Drill

  • Players start straight on at NVZ
  • 1 player is hitting regular punch volleys
  • Partner is alternating between block and volley
  • Focus is to feel the difference in each and be able to switch at will

Erne How to and When

When to hit

  • Opponent is close to the sideline and compromised
  • Can achieve by hitting them side to side and then go
  • Can achieve by pushing them deeper over the course of a few shots
  • When deep sideline dink causes them to look down to hit ball

Prep

  • Follow the ball as it goes to the sideline – can straddle corner as a start if needed
  • Partner needs to shade with you
  • You can jump corner or go around it

Trouble shooting

  • Don’t go too early – at contact or after contact
  • Watch for line issues whether you jump or go around
  • Don’t over use it! Just bc ball is on sideline doesn’t mean the shot is there
