Thank you for attending Lesson 10 of our 12 week Training Series! Please note that lessons do not have to be taken in numerical order. You are welcome to start anytime during the 3 month rotation.
Here are your notes and homework from class. Keep practicing to solidify all you learned.

Drop Shot Mechanic

  • Reach out with non paddle hand and load forward with non paddle leg
  • Soft hand, Soft stable wrist, Soft body
  • Contact point out in front- about 12″ in front of your front knee and low
  • Laid back wrist
  • Forward and Low with swing and weight transfer to keep the ball trajectory low
  • Just like tossing a ball or bean bag underhand

Self Feed Drop Shot Drill

  • Self feed balls and practice dropping straight on and cross court
  • Use old towels as targets- Brains like Targets!

Drive Mechanic

  • Focus on contact point out in front with laid back wrist- low to high motion
  • Short Backswing- paddle butt to back hip
  • Stepping forward with non paddle leg on forehand and paddle leg with backhand. 
  • Extending forward and not up with swing and weight transfer
    • Watch that shoulders don’t go up and down
  • Swing plane to the side and paddle horizontal- not pendulum swing

 

Drop or Drive Drill

  • Place cones 2/3rd the way back on service box
  • One player feeding balls from NVZ- hand toss and vary the depth
  • Shallow and high- make them cry!!  Drive balls bouncing in front of the cones and high
  • Low go slow- balls bouncing shallow and low = drop
  • Balls bouncing behind the cones in the back third of court = drop shot
