Thank you for attending Lesson 2 of our 12 week Training Series! Please note that lessons do not have to be taken in numerical order. You are welcome to start anytime during the 3 month rotation.

Drop Shot Mechanic

  • Reach out with non paddle hand and load forward with non paddle leg
  • Soft hand, Soft stable wrist, Soft body
  • Contact point out in front- about 12″ in front of your front knee and low
  • Laid back wrist
  • Forward and Low with swing and weight transfer to keep the ball trajectory low
  • Just like tossing a ball or bean bag underhand

Drop Shot Collector Drill

  • 1 player tosses and other hits
  • Hitting player hits from baseline
  • Part #1 – Warm up round for 2 min
    • Hitting player just hits drops off the tossed feed aiming for NVZ
  • Part #2 – Competition Round for 1 min
    • Tosser counts how many drops in 1 min their partner lands in NVZ

Approaching - When and How

  • Watch your opponent’s paddle prep:  red, yellow or green light?
  • Commit to your shot and move forward with follow through
  • Back up if needed
  • Keep paddle out in front to play defense if needed

3 Ball Toss Drill

  • Set up 3 cones
  • 1 player at NVZ and one at Baseline
  • NVZ player tosses ball underhand to baseline player- do not catch the ball just feed 3 balls consecutively at a reasonable pace
  • Hitting player continues forward even if ball is out or in the net- focus is on moving forward and not stopping
